Drug name: Yasmin (drosperinone and ethynilestradiol)

Therapeutic effects:

Yasmin is a low dose monophase oral contraceptive with antimineralocorticoid and anti-androgenic action. Contraceptive effect is based on interaction of different factors such as ovulation suppression, modification of cervical mucous. Endomethrium becomes unprepared to egg's implantation, hinders the penetration of sperm cells in the uterine cavity.

Drosperinone, containing in Yasmin possesses antimineralocorticoid activity, prevents weight fain and other symptoms associated with water retention. In combination ethynilestradiol, drosperinone improves lipid profile and increases the levels of LDL. Drosperinone possesses anti-androgenic activity leading to decrease of acne manifestations and secretion of oil glands.

Indications:

Yasmin is used to prevent undesirable pregnancy (oral contraception).

The most common Yasmin side effects include: painfulness in the mammary gland, discharges from the mammary gland, headache, migraine, libido changes, decreased mood, intolerance of contact lenses, nausea, vomiting, changes of vaginal secretion, water retention, changes of body weight, reactions of hypersensitivity, chloasma (in pregnant women).

Cautions and restrictions:

• Arterial and venous thrombosis (thrombosis of the deep veins, thromboembolia of pulmonary artery, heart attacks, cerebrovascular disorders).
• Conditions predisposing to thrombosis (transient ischemic attacks, stenocardia)
• Diabetes with vascular complications
• Risk factors of venous or arterial thrombosis
• Severe forms of liver diseases
• Severe kidney failure
• Acute renal failure
• Liver tumors (malignant or benign)
• Hormone-dependent diseases of genitals and mammary glands
• Vaginal bleedings of unknown origin
• Breastfeeding
• Pregnancy
• Hypersensitivity to any of the medications ingredients

• Hypertriglyceridemia
