Drug name: Utrogestan (progesterone)
Therapeutic effects: Progesterone, the active ingredient of Utrogestan, is a hormone of the yellow body. It promotes formation of a normal secretory endometrium in women, causes the endometrium to move from proliferative phase to secretory phase, and after fertilization promotes its transition to a state necessary for the development of a fertilized egg. Utrogestan reduces the excitability and contractility of muscles of the uterus and fallopian tubes, stimulates the development of terminal elements of the breast. It has anti-androgenic activity due to regulation of the active metabolite ( dihydrotestosterone) production, increases urine output due to anti-aldosterone effect.
Indications:
For oral use:
- Endocrine infertility (due to luteal insufficiency)
- Prevention of recurrent miscarriage or threat of miscarriage in the background of luteal insufficiency
- Threatened premature delivery
- Premenstrual syndrome
- Irregular menstruation (dysmenorrhea, oligo- and amenorrhea, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, etc.)
- Fibrocystic mastopathy, mastalgia
- Premenopause, menopause, postmenopause - hormone replacement therapy in combination with estrogen agents
Intravaginal use:
- Hormone replacement therapy in case of progesterone deficiency in non-functional / missing ovaries (in egg cells donation)
- Support of the luteal phase in preparation for extracorporeal fertilization
- Support of the luteal phase in spontaneous or induced menstrual cycle
- Premature menopause
- Premenopause, menopause, postmenopause - hormone replacement therapy in combination with estrogen agents
- Endocrine sterility
- Prevention of habitual or threatened miscarriage due to luteal insufficiency
- Prevention of uterine fibroids
- Prevention of endometriosis
