Drug name: No-spa (drotaverine)

Therapeutic effects: No-spa is a myotropic spasmolytic. It works by decreasing the entrance of calcium ions in the smooth muscles cells, decreases the tonicity of the smooth muscles of the internal organs, their motional activity, moderately dilates blood vessels. No-spa effectively relieves spasms of the internals of nervous and muscular etiology.

Indications:

No-spa is indicated for the prophylaxis and treatment of functional disorders and pain syndrome caused by spasms of the smooth muscles:

• Spasms of the smooth muscles associated with the diseases of the biliary tract: cholecystolithiasis, cholecystitis, pericholecystitis, cholangitis, papillitis,
• Spasms of the smooth muscles of the urinary system: cystitis, pyelitis, tenesmus of the urinary bladder, nephrolithiasis, urethrolithiasis.
• Smooth muscles spasms of the gastrointestinal tract: stomach and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, enteritis, colitis, spastic constipation.
• Gynecology: dysmenorrhea, spasms of the cervix during pregnancy period.
• Prophylaxis of smooth muscles spasms during surgical interventions.

No-spa may cause the following side effects:

• Gastrointestinal tract: nausea, constipation
• Nervous system: headache, dizziness, insomnia
• Cardiovascular system: increased heart rate, low blood pressure
• Other: hot flashes, sweating, allergic reactions

In intravenous infusion the medication may cause AV-block, arrhythmia, suppression of respiratory center.

Drug interactions:

No-spa can interact with the following medicines:

• Levodopa. No-spa decreases antiparkinsonian effect of Levodopa
• Papaverine, spasmolytics, bendazole, m-cholinoblocker, phenobarbital. In combination with these medicines No-spa enhances spasmolytic effect.
• Tricyclic antidepressants, quinidine and procainamide: increased risk of arterial hypotension
• Morphine. No-spa decreases the spasmogenic activity of morphine

Cautions and restrictions:

The medication is contraindicated in the treatment of the following conditions:

• Individual intolerance (including hypersensitivity in anamnesis)
• Severe liver or kidney failure
• AV-block of II and III degree
• Arterial hypotension
• Children under 3 years of age
• Atherosclerosis of coronary arteries
• Prostate gland adenoma
• Glaucoma
• Pregnancy
• Lactation

Additional information:

You should store the medication at dry and protected from light place out of reach of children, in temperature 15-25°C. Shelf-life is 5 years. Do not use the medication after expiration date.
