Drug name: Guttalax (Sodium picosulfate)

Therapeutic effects: The preparation is a Laxative stimulant. The effects of Guttalax are developed in the larger intestines. The sulfate radical is detaches from the molecule due to the effects of the sulfate producing microorganisms, transforming the drug into its active form diphenol. The preparation stimulates the receptors of the larger intestines, increasing their peristalsis. The effects of the drug may be monitored within 6 to 12 hours after administration.

The drug is not absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. The active ingredient of the drug diphenol is found in trace concentrations in blood of the treated patients.

Indications: Guttalax is indicated in treatment of different constipation types including:

Atonic constipation
Spastic constipation

Especially constipation caused by diet, pregnancy, excessive weight, immobility and etc.
