Drug name: Flixonase (Fluticasone)

Therapeutic effects: Flixonase contains the active ingredient fluticasone that belongs to a group of medical preparations called glucocorticoids (steroids). The medication possesses anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory action.

Anti-inflammatory action is associated with suppression of mast cells, lymphocytes and eosinophils proliferation, decrease of inflammatory mediators and biologically active compounds production. Flixonase exerts fast and potent anti-inflammatory action on the nasal mucous lining, decreases frequency of sneezing, relieves nasal itching and eye symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis.

Indications:

Flixonase in used in prophylaxis and prophylaxis of seanonal and all-year-round allergic rhinitis.

The medication may cause the following side effects:

• Local reactions: dry mouth and irritation, taste changes, nasal bleedings, nasal congestion. In very rare cases – perforation of internasal septum
• Allergic reactions: skin rash, edema of the face and tongue, anaphylactic reactions and bronchospasms
• Other: headache

Drug interactions:

Flixonase should not be used in:

• Local and oral corticosteroids
• Protease inhibitors
• Antimycotics
• Macrolides
• Nasal drops containing NSAID's, vasoconstrictors
• Drugs metabolized by CYP3A4

Cautions and restrictions:

Flixonase is contraindicated for use in patients:

• under 4 years of age
• with hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients
• pregnancy
• breastfeeding

Flixonase should be used with caution in patients with herpes simplex virus, infections of the nasal cavity, nasal trauma, ulcerous lesions of the nasal mucous lining

Additional information:

Flixonase nasal spray should be stored at room temperature not exceeding 30°C. Shelf-life period is 2 years.
