Drug name: Femoden

Therapeutic effects: Femoden is a monophasic low dosed oral contraceptive, containing a combination of gestogen and estrogen. The gestogen component of the drug is 19-nortestosterone a highly effective synthetic gestogen, which according to its selectivity and effectiveness surpasses even the modern synthetic gestogens like levonorgestrel. Due to its high activity the drug may be used in low dosages. The estrogen component of Femoden is Ethynilestradiol, which works by affecting the endothelial lining of the uterus, by negatively affecting the implantation of the fertilized egg, and decreasing the ability of spermatozoa to reach the ovaries, by increasing the viscosity of the uterine mucous.

The key particularities of the preparation consist in low concentrations of the hormones and high tolerability of the drug.

Indications: The preparation is normally administered in order to prevent unwanted pregnancy in women of child-bearing age.

The drug may also be used for other conditions, if prescribed by the health care provider.

The drug is normally well tolerated, however in certain cases may cause side-effects:

• Headaches
• Abdominal discomfort
• Nausea
• Increased sensitivity of the mammary glands
• Changes in weight and libido
• Irritation
• Low mood
• Chloasma

Drug interactions:

The preparation should not be combined with the following drugs:

• Derivatives of barbituric acid
• Drugs used in epilepsy treatment
• Antibiotics
• Drugs used in diabetes treatment

Cautions and restrictions:

The drug must not be used in cases of:

• Pregnancy
• Liver failure
• Jaundice
• Dubin-Johnson syndrome
• Rotor syndrome
• Liver tumors
• Thromboembolic processes
• Anemia
• Mammary gland cancer
• Severe diabetes
• Fat metabolism disorders
• Otosclerosis
• Endometrial cancer

Additional information:

The drug should be kept in dry conditions, at temperatures not exceeding 25C. Keep the preparation away from children.
