Drug name: Bicillin-5 (benzathine benzylpenicillin + benzylpenicillin)

Therapeutic effects: Bicillin-5 is a prolonged action antibiotic of penicillin group that is broken down by penicillinase. The mechanism of action is due to violation of peptidoglycan synthesis – a mucopeptide of cell membrane, which leads to inhibition of bacteria cell wall synthesis, suppression of the growth and multiplication of microorganisms.

Bicillin-5 is active against gram-positive bacteria: Staphylococcus spp. (not penicillinase-producing), Streptococcus spp. (including Streptococcus pneumoniae), and Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Bacillus anthracis.

Viruses, fungi, protozoa, most Gram-negative bacteria are resistant to the drug.

Indications:

treatment of infectious diseases caused by pathogens susceptible to penicillin
year-round prevention of rheumatic fever in adults and children
