Drug name: Atenolol

Therapeutic effects: The preparation is a selective Beta-blockers, which exerts antianginal, anyhypertensive and anti-arrhythmic effects. Decreases automatism of the sinus node, decreases the frequency of heart contractions, slows atrio-ventricular conductivity, decreases contractility of the myocardium, and the miocardium demand for oxygen.

Atenolol is not fully absorbed from the GI tract. The maximum concentrations of the drug in the blood are reached in 2-4 hours after administration, the half-life of the preparation is 6-7 hours. The drug penetrates placenta barrier and is found in breast milk. Does not penetrate the placenta barrier.
